# Vālmīki Rāmāyaṇa — startingsphere.com > A multi-resolution reader of the Vālmīki Rāmāyaṇa (Baroda Critical Edition, IAST), with an English > translation, word-by-word glosses, and summaries at several scales. Currently: Bāla, Ayodhyā, Araṇya > kāṇḍas (7161 verses). Built 2026-10-31 18:48. All data below is static and free to fetch. ## Structure (coarse → fine) kāṇḍa (book) → portion (a run of sargas) → sarga (chapter: short title + one-sentence summary) → sequence (the sarga's events as arrow steps, each beat cited to verses) → verse (IAST pādas, translation, word-by-word). References are `kāṇḍa.sarga.verse`, e.g. `2.46.3` = Ayodhyā Kāṇḍa, sarga 46, verse 3. Verse numbering follows the Critical Edition and is stable; translations and summaries may be revised. ## Plain text (best for reading) - [Outline of every sarga](/text/index.md) - One sarga: `/text/{kanda}/{sarga}.md` e.g. [/text/1/2.md](/text/1/2.md) ## JSON (best for programs) - [/data/index.json](/data/index.json): full tree with titles, sentences, verse counts - `/data/{kanda}/{sarga}.json`: sequence + verses. Verse = {v, ref, lines:[{p (pāda a/c/e), t (IAST)}], tr (translation), w: [[surface, gloss, analysis?, stems?]]}. Sequence = paragraphs → beats {steps:[...], from, to} where from/to are the verses the beat summarises. - [/ramayana.jsonl](/ramayana.jsonl): every verse, one object per line {ref, kanda, sarga, verse, iast[], translation, sarga_title} ## Human reader - `/` outline; `/{kanda}/{sarga}` a sarga; `/{kanda}/{sarga}/{verse}` a verse.
